butterfly effect landscaping and design is run by me, Mika

i’ve been landscaping and farming in the seattle metro area for 5 years, before that i was living in Portland, OR. I am excited about native and co-adaptive planting, regenerative practices, creating pathways and fostering resilient ecosystems. “butterfly effect” comes from a childhood fascination and long-standing belief that how we do one thing is how we do anything, and everything we do can have compounding effects.

I believe this is especially true for your garden — a place right outside your door you can turn to for moments of peace, aesthetic enjoyment or garden veggies. As part of a bigger picture, every residential parcel has the potential to be stewarded as a pocket of the natural world. We may not be able to amend the entire world, but one garden at a time we can support pollinators, plant rain water and build healthy soil and in so doing, foster harmony in our respective corners of it.

Butterfly Effect Services

1. Planting Design
I am greatly inspired by our lush native landscapes here in the PNW full of dimension. As well as the vibrant, carpet like tundra of Alaska bursting with interlacing moss, sedges, wildflowers and berries.

I aim to plant communities that function beneficially together as well as satisfy our aesthetic sensibilities. By mimicking nature, we can create year-round, low maintenance landscapes that reflect your personality as well as support a healthy ecosystem.

2. Garden Maintenance.
Are the brambles, weeds and soggy grasses masking the beauty and structure of your garden? Is there a scraggly branch you can’t stop looking at?

As a master pruner, as well as a reliable and efficient worker, I can give your garden the TLC it needs. Whether you are seeking seasonal or regular maintenance or a major cut back after a long period of letting the garden “go”, I’ve got you covered.

3. Hardscaping I may not look it, but I am seasoned and experienced in hardscaping. I have built many a pathway and patio working with flagstone, brick, pavers and gravel. I am diligent with slopes and grading, conscious of drainage and a resourceful problem solver.

I am only taking small jobs as I am a small operation at the moment, but I love to build patios, pathways and riverstone walls.

4. something else?
do you have a roof that needs pressure washing? some junk removed? some painting that needs done? I’m handy, let’s talk :)
